About Us
Corporate Social Responsibility
Aviva is a responsible corporate citizen and we see our Corporate Responsibility programme as a chance to deliver meaningful value and tangible benefits to the community in which we operate.
Our CR strategy ensures that we act responsibly over the long term in how we do business; including the way we manage the direct impact Aviva has, on society and the environment.
Aviva’s CR effort in Singapore is aligned to our Group’s community investment strategy focused in the areas of education and financial literacy. The focus in 2010 is on Aviva’s Street to School programme to deliver some level of support to needy children. This enables us to channel financial and organisational support to areas where we have real expertise to offer. Our CR strategy also provides an engagement platform to harness the energies, skills and talents of our employees through their roles in the workplace and also through direct involvement in our local community and environment initiatives.
Through this focus, we aim to lend an added dimension to Aviva’s purpose of providing prosperity and peace of mind to our customers and stakeholders.
Employee Volunteering: Helping children build their future
Aviva’s CR programme in Singapore is focused on helping disadvantaged and needy children in the communities in which we operate.
In 2009, Aviva partnered Esplanade (Singapore’s iconic arts centre) to create a volunteering programme focused on helping a group of hearing-impaired children under the care of Singapore General Hospital integrate into mainstream education.
The programme enables Aviva staff volunteers to directly interact and work with these children as part of their on-going support and rehabilitative care. The content of the programme, based on arts, music and movement would otherwise have been out of the reach of this group of needy beneficiairies.
This volunteering initiative was launched on Aviva Day in 2009, as part of the community activities. To date, three volunteering projects have been successfully completed, involving more than 70 volunteers benefitting this group of 30 children and their siblings.

Uncover the Esplanade Trail on 6 February 2010
Volunteers and children spent Saturday morning exploring the iconic centre through a specially developed Esplanade Trail. This trail (suitable for children of Primary School ages) takes the form of an interactive worksheet which enables the volunteers and children to explore the centre on their own and to learn more about Esplanade and the arts through interactive activities and by answering simple questions within the worksheet. Each volunteer-child pair will be given a worksheet and they can interact while exploring the centre together.
Octoburst! performance and outing on 3 October 2009
Volunteers brought the kids to a Children’s Day performance ‘Pak Pandir traps the Tiger and Oily Cakes’. Adapted from the popular series of Malay stories about Pak Pandir, the first story is a funny, delightful, heart-warming tale that revolves around the loving couple Pak Pandir and Mak Andeh. This is coupled with another family story from India featuring Little Tri who helps her grandmother catch the cake thief. Both performances included dance and activities that kept all the kids engaged.
Postcards from the Moon, 1 June 2009
The theme “Postcards to/from the Moon” was developed because this year, the Mid-Autumn festival happens two days after Children’s Day in October. The arts workshop incorporated elements of caring for the environment as well as the children created postcards to the moon, learning a little more about the festival as they have fun participating in a creative activity.
