Global Think Tank launch

  • Simon Tay, Chairman of the Singapore Institute of International Affairs, to represent ASEAN countries in think tank.
  • Think tank is part of Aviva's first global brand campaign, 'You are the Big Picture', that launches in Singapore today.
  • The campaign demonstrates Aviva's commitment to putting customers at the heart of its business.

Aviva, the world's sixth largest insurance company, today announced the launch of The Future Prosperity Panel, a global think tank that will unite some of the world's leading authorities on behaviour change, economics and policy to investigate the big picture on the major global financial issues of tomorrow. It will be run in partnership with the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). The announcement is part of Aviva's first global brand campaign, titled 'You are the Big Picture', that kicks off simultaneously in London, Warsaw, Paris and Singapore today. Delhi and Mumbai, India, will follow in November.

The Future Prosperity Panel includes Simon Tay, Chairman of the Singapore Institute of International Affairs, as its ASEAN representative as well as world renowned thought leaders such as Alain de Botton, philosopher and author. It convened for the first time yesterday morning in London. Broadly, it will investigate shifts in savings models, examine the role that different cultures play in attitudes to saving and assess the impact of external influencers such as technology. In parallel, it will look into public and private sector influences and evaluate the effectiveness of current policies, potential new models for financial services in emerging markets and possible disconnects between approaches and requirements. The findings of the panel will be published in a White Paper in early 2011.

Simon Tay comments: "In this time of crisis, Asia is one region that is economically dynamic. But that is the macro picture. It is another question whether individual Asians and share in that prosperity, and whether corporate practices and government policies promote prosperity. This is therefore a welcome conversation with potential to stimulate thinking, change perspectives and shape future outcomes."

Simon Newman, CEO of Aviva Singapore, added: "The Future Prosperity Panel will help build our understanding of the financial issues affecting our customers around the world today and those likely to affect them in the future. Subsequently, it will help us identify what we can do to make a positive difference through further meaningful innovations in our life insurance, investment, retirement and health solutions."

You are the Big Picture - Global Brand Campaign

'You are the Big Picture' is a significant global brand campaign from Aviva that demonstrates the firm's commitment to putting customers at the heart of its business. The campaign features real stories of the people most important to Aviva - its customers, employees, business partners and communities. It used a range of innovative approaches including wrapping landmark buildings and powerful public projections, supported by a social media advertising campaign, to bring to life Aviva's brand promise of individual recognition.

Simon Newman continued: "We've listened to our customers and heard their universal desire to be treated as individuals. As a result, we have accelerated our transition towards a more customer-centric business model – one where the customer is the big picture. 'You are the Big Picture' marks the latest chapter in this evolution. Moving forward, our customers in Singapore can expect even more innovative solutions that offer exceptional convenience, flexibility and value such as our direct online insurance offerings."

As part of the 'You are the Big Picture' Campaign, from Tuesday 19 October to Monday 25 October, Aviva will give thousands of people in Singapore and around the world the chance to have their very own moment of recognition by having their photo projected onto on of the six landmark buildings in global cities. Any member of the public can take part by uploading their photograph at or via as of today.

For the first 250,000 photos uploaded by members of the public, Aviva will donate £1 (~$2.1SGD) per image to Save the Children as part of its global Street to School programme; supporting initiatives that help children living and working on the streets back into education or training. This is part of a five year commitment to helping 500,000 children worldwide fulfill their potential and to raising awareness about the plight of street children who are largely unrecognised by society. Images of children who are being helped by the programme also feature in the campaign.
