SINGAPORE, 08 June 2017 – Aviva, a leading insurer in Singapore, has introduced new enhancements and riders for its travel insurance policy, with the aim of alleviating uncertainty for consumers when they travel overseas.
- Aviva enhances travel insurance policy with first-in-market feature, provides coverage for cancellation or change of travelling date for any reason
- Also provides coverage for destination weddings and photography, winter sports, water sports as well as golf vacations, to cater to consumers' travel agendas today
- Digital partnership with RYDE to distribute travel insurance directly through its mobile app; RYDE members fully covered even during journey to and from airport
Currently, travel insurance policies in the market cover trip cancellations or change of travelling dates for specific claimable reasons such as death, injury, or illness. To provide additional flexibility to consumers, Aviva has gone beyond this to introduce first-in-market coverage for cancellation or change of travelling dates for any reason – for instance, cancellations due to sudden work commitments, family emergencies, or even simply a change of mind. A 50% reimbursement will be provided for such claims.
Aviva has also introduced coverage for more novel reasons such as destination weddings and overseas photoshoots, in response to their growing popularity amongst couples today. This new rider's coverage includes financial loss if your wedding service providers become insolvent and leave you in the lurch. It also covers personal liability for injury to guests or damage to property, as well as loss of items such as wedding attire, accessories and marriage certificate, amongst others.
Other new riders that Aviva has introduced to better cater to consumers' travel agenda include coverage for winter sports (e.g. skiing), water sports (e.g. diving), and golf vacations.
Pan Jing Long, Head of General Insurance from Aviva Singapore, said, "People travel for a variety of reasons – for example, to pursue interests that are not accessible here, such as skiing or diving. Destination weddings and overseas photography are also becoming increasingly popular with couples, and these come with a high financial outlay. Our new suite of add-ons ensures our customers are fully protected when they are overseas, with benefits that are relevant to their lifestyles and travel agenda."
Teams up with RYDE to offer direct purchase of travel insurance via mobile app
In addition to digital and financial advisory channels, Aviva has expanded its distribution network for its travel insurance by teaming up with RYDE, a carpooling app. This is Aviva and RYDE's second partnership.
Via the use of an application program interface (API), RYDE members can now get a quote and purchase Aviva's travel insurance from within the RYDE app, with a 10 per cent discount on their premium. If they are also an existing Aviva customer, the discount goes up to 30 per cent – this is part of Aviva's ongoing initiative to reward existing customers.
On top of the convenience and discount, RYDE members are assured of full coverage even during their journey to and from the airport.
Terence Zou, RYDE's founder and CEO, said, "With the integration of RYDE and Aviva's back-end systems, our members can now purchase insurance directly from Aviva with just a few taps within the RYDE app. Ensuring the safety of our members is our priority, and we aim to transform how insurance is digitally delivered to enhance protection for mobility."
Pan added, "At Aviva, we aim to reduce uncertainty for our customers and enable them to travel with greater peace of mind. Providing full protection throughout the entire travel journey aligns with this aim, and ties in nicely with our existing carpooling proposition with RYDE. We are committed to creating new, improved digital experiences for our customers, and look forward to exploring more of such partnerships in future."
