With the recent launch of CareShield Life, the mandatory national insurance scheme, Aviva commissioned YouGov to conduct a long-term care study that analysed 2,050 responses about Singaporeans’ personal perceptions and attitudes towards long-term care and severe disability, as well as how they plan to finance their long-term care needs including their awareness of CareShield Life.
The survey was conducted from 24 September to 29 September 2020, targeting respondents aged 18 and above. The results reveal that there is strong consensus among Singaporeans that severe disability can happen at any time and to anyone (95%), and yet 50% believe they will continue to stay healthy and are unlikely to need long-term care. This sentiment was higher among younger Singaporeans aged between 20-29 (69%) and 30-39 (55%), and less so for those above 40 (42%).
